Boardcall reads today's swell, wind, and tide at your surf spot and gives you a plain-English briefing plus the one board from your own quiver that fits — no account required, no setup beyond picking your boards and a spot.
Boardcall is built by one person, not a support team, so replies are personal but may take a day or two. Including your device type and iOS version helps if you're reporting a bug.
Every briefing is normally written by an AI service, using your day's conditions and boards. If that call fails for any reason — no connection, a server hiccup, or you've used up your free AI briefings for the week — Boardcall instantly writes a solid briefing itself instead, from the same underlying numbers and the same ranked list of your boards. You'll never see an error screen either way.
AI-written briefings carry a small sparkle mark and a "Written by AI" label, so you can always tell which kind you're reading. Both are built from the same forecast data and the same on-device board ranking; the difference is that one is written from a template and the other is written by Claude, which may also explain a different pick from that ranked list. AI-written text can be wrong — check anything that matters against the water in front of you.
The pick is based on today's actual conditions — wave size, period, and wind — measured against the volume and type of every board in your quiver. Nothing about your boards changed; the surf did, so a different one can be the better fit today.
Boardcall needs a connection to fetch the day's wave, wind, and tide data. If you've opened the app recently, it'll show your last cached conditions (cached for up to an hour). Without a connection and without anything cached yet, you'll need to get online to see today's briefing.
Tap the gear icon on Today to open Settings. Spot selection and your daily notification time both live there. To stop the daily reminder, turn off the reminder toggle in Settings — you can also turn off notifications for Boardcall entirely in iOS Settings → Notifications → Boardcall.
Open the Quiver tab. Tap the + button to add a board, tap an existing board to edit its dimensions, type, volume, or fin setup, or swipe to delete it.
Everything in Boardcall is free with one exception. The free version includes your full board quiver with no limits, up to three saved spots, the six-day forecast, the spot map covering the whole catalog, and 5 AI-written briefings per week. After that weekly cap, Today still shows a complete, accurate briefing — it's just written locally instead of by AI, as described above.
Boardcall Pro removes that cap for unlimited AI-written briefings every day.
Boardcall Pro is an auto-renewable subscription. It's charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase and renews automatically for the same length and price shown above unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends — see below for how to cancel.
Open Settings → Subscription in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Since Apple handles all billing, this reconnects Boardcall to your existing subscription under the Apple Account you purchased with — Boardcall itself keeps no purchase records of its own.
All billing for Boardcall Pro is handled by Apple, so cancellation happens in iOS Settings, not inside Boardcall: go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Boardcall Pro → Cancel Subscription. You'll keep Pro access through the end of the period you already paid for, per Apple's standard subscription terms.
No. Boardcall never requests or uses location services. Every spot in the app — on Today, Forecast, or the Map tab — comes from a built-in catalog you choose from.
